I'm currently a high school student without a cell phone. Lately, my friends who all have cell phone's have been nagging me for not having my own. They complain that it's essential to their survival in their everyday life. On the other hand, I have gone without a cell phone for a few years now and have been just fine, however, I'm sure having a cell phone could have been useful at times. What importance does a cell phone play in the daily lives of a high school student and is it really necessary to have one? What should I do?
-Calls Always Dropped
Call Always Dropped,
Nowadays cell phones seem essential to help us maintain contact with our friends and family. They can be convenient when people are trying to get in touch with you and safer when you go out. My seven year old sister just got a cell phone and I know my parents find relief in knowing that they can get in contact with her at all times. However, just because it is a necessity in your friend’s lives doesn’t mean it is the same for you. Don’t give them a reason to start nagging you (ex. like asking if you could borrow their phones) and eventually they will give up. Also, cell phone plans require a commitment and you might think a pay phone will suffice. I suggest a “go phone” it works the same way as a regular cell phone but without the fuss of a cell phone plan. You pay by the minute and just reload it with new minutes once you run out and are available at most cell phone companies. You could use it for those “emergency” or “where are you calls” and leave the longer calls for your house phone.
Love,
